Twined knitting: right and wrong sides

The right side is fairly similar to ordinary knitting, but knit stitches are tall and narrow instead of short and wide; also, you get deep relief patterns.

The wrong side almost looks crocheted rather than knitted.

Here's a blog with great photos that show the basics of the technique.

Du er altså bare super dygtig til at strikke. Jeg synes, at du kender så mange teknikker og får altid skønne produkter ud af din viden og dygtighed.

One of these days I'll get around to trying it myself, but I love seeing your photos. I also love Theresa's blog and wish she'd get back to it.

Thanks for referring us to the other blog and wonderful instructions. They are the clearest I have seen and just might try a pair of mitts using twined knitting. Your sweater looks beautiful. Do you knit continental or English?

Im in loce with that pattern. See that is what Im talking about. Im just getting into knitting pretty heavy now and I have a hard time knowing what the wrong and right side is. In some designs I love the wrong side. But thank you so much for putting a different perspective on it.

Thank you so very much for your comments!

I knit continental, so I had a hard time mastering the twined technique at first; twisting strands on top of keeping them in my right hand. It felt like trying to get on a bike from the wrong side.

I did learn the English way when I was in the UK at 14; it was fun being able to knit both ways, but after some time I went back to my old ways that I felt more comfortable with and so hadn't "thrown" for almost twenty years when I was going to learn this technique.

Well your technique is working really good for you. I'll keep up on my own practicing so that maybe one day my hands can flow smoothly...

this looks so beautiful (as does your last year's sweater). Looking at your link I had to laugh -- how do you keep track of things when you are only use one color LOL ... will have to try it for myself. I think there is a new book out (at Schoolhouse press) but honestly don't know if I have room for one more book in my sewing room (yes, it is that stuffed -- how did THAT happen) LOL
