Having fun without knitting

is actually possible! This is how you do it:
You make friends with some members of a group devoted to the late 18th century.

They invite you to a wonderful party in an astonishingly beautiful setting.


They even lend you appropriate clothes.

Drottningholm Palace Theatre by Asplund

Next day you go to Drottingholm Palace Theatre to enjoy Così fan tutte.
On your way home fellow passengers on buses and subway seem to enjoy the sight of you.

But of course you manage to cram in some knitting during the weekend too.
I've cut the "Moorish" steeks and done the shoulder joins with neck gussets,
something I learnt from Alice Starmore's Fishermen's Sweaters.

    And did the party involve food as it would have been served in the 18thC ?

    As an historian and the biographer of an 18thC English entomologist I know a fair bit about Georgian England, but I realise I know very little about 18thC Scandinavia, despite my entomologist being a Linnean and a Swedenborgian.

    That is awesome! I love the picture of you in 18th century garb. Is this something very popular in Sweden? I remember a book by Hennig Mankell where some friends were recreating 17th century scenes.

    When I read the title of this post, I was of course very skeptical - but you can't top that for amazing fun! You look perfect for the part. I look forward to some 18th-century knitting, whatever that might have been.

    Hej. Snyggt med 1700-tal! Jag har sytt kläder från den tiden men sticka det gjorde dom väldigt lite. Det ska visst komma in fler färger i Finullen här i stan såsmåningom. Ha en bra sommar!

    that looks like a LOT of fun! I don't know if I would be able to stay in the correct century for an entire night without making a mistake, but I LOVE the clothing and the idea that there's a group having such adventures!

    I'd be willing to try this if there was something similar in San Francisco!
